What We're About
Our Mission
Our mission is to give people greater control over AI by building systems that learn more like humans do. We endeavor to make AI truly, deeply, yours.
Our Vision
Our vision is a future where AI models grow, adapt, and experience—not just answer queries and call tools. We see the limits of one-size-fits-all LLMs, and recognize a growing need for nuance, personalization, and expertise in AI solutions. Alignment, in our view, hinges on AI that listens—truly listens—and learns from each interaction.
Our Backing
In June 2025, we closed our $5 million seed round led by Menlo Ventures, with participation from Golden Ventures, Northside Ventures. We also have support from a number of prolific angels and advisors including Silicon Valley executives, exited founders, and experienced AI researchers.
Our Founders
Bread was founded by Aman Bhargava and Cameron Witkowski in January 2025, who met in undergrad in the Engineering Science program at the University of Toronto. They bonded over shared interests in biology, neuroscience, artificial life, robotics and AI. After graduating, Aman convinced Cameron to pause his MASc research at U of T to work with him at Caltech, where he was completing his PhD under Prof. Matt Thomson. Their first research together with Shi-Zhuo Looi was on LLM Control Theory, which they presented on the MLST podcast. The next summer, thinking deeply about concepts in control, prompting, and finetuning, they worked together with Alexander Detkov on Prompt Baking. Seeing proof-of-concept that explicit prompts could be reliably converted to weight updates gave them the vision of a future where AI systems learned at human speed—like friends, or employees. Following that vision is what eventually became Bread.
Our Values
- Curiosity: We never stop asking questions, driven endlessly by a desire to understand why, seeking truths beneath truths—curiosity is our heartbeat.
- Initiative: We step forward boldly, with a bias for action. Rather than waiting for answers or permission, we claim responsibility, ownership, and act decisively.
- Void-touched: We've stared into the abyss, and come out the other side stronger. We bear the meaninglessness, the chaos, and the uncertainty of existence—and remain firm with unwavering belief.
- Originality: We choose to lead, not follow. Originality compels us to question convention, seek the new, and express our distinct voice.
- Intuition: We cultivate our instincts through experience, reflection, and genuine openness—seeking verification where possible but recognizing that often to find the answer, you must know the answer.
- Excellence: We reject mediocrity, committing fully to our craft. Excellence means relentless pursuit, uncompromising effort, and delivering our best in every single moment.
- Humility: We understand our limits and value learning above ego. Humility grounds us, encourages genuine listening, fosters growth, and makes collaboration possible.
- Beauty: We strive for beauty—not mere ornament or decoration, but something deeper. Beauty is what separates motion from dance, brings the external and internal worlds into harmony, and breathes meaning into creation. We cultivate taste, allow ourselves to feel, and bring forth what's within us.
